LA RECENSIONE

Bluvertigo was one of the most "alternative" (how I hate this word) bands of the '90s. They had great success throughout their career, from their first album (Acidi e Basi) released in 1995, to their participation in the 2001 Festival, which will be remembered for Brian Molko's gesture of first smashing the guitar on stage and then making rude gestures to the audience. The news of their reunion for the MTV show "Storytellers" (Morgan confirmed a Summer Tour and a new album of original songs in 2009 during the show) was welcomed with joy by many fans, including myself. It was also a help for those who knew Morgan only through X Factor.
MTV Storytellers consists of a CD and a DVD with the performance recorded on April 7, with the video of the wonderful "Fuori dal Tempo" as a bonus track.

The tracklist is very fitting for the event. It includes practically all their best songs (except for Fuori dal Tempo, which, however, is present as a bonus video track). Some songs also get a slightly modified arrangement, and in the end, with all these pieces, they demonstrate the various faces of a band that knew how to be versatile like few others. Among them, I highlight "Sono = Sono", "L'assenzio", and "Altre Forme di Vita", which was also chosen as the first single. In the DVD, it's nice to hear the various anecdotes and stories that the band shares with Maugeri (who I consider among the best VJs/music journalists). They are in top form, it almost seems like they never broke up. Certainly among the best reunions ever seen.

A recommended album both for those who want to get to know Bluvertigo and their fans. In an Italian music world where Italian bands are always the same, it's nice to see a return of something a bit different from the usual stereotypes of Italian bands (of which I won't speak to avoid trouble).

Bluvertigo

Bluvertigo are an Italian group from Monza led by Morgan (Marco Castoldi). Known for the Chemical Trilogy—Acidi e basi (1995), Metallo non metallo (1997), Zero (1999)—they blend new wave, synth-pop, and rock with literate lyrics. They appeared at Sanremo 2001 with L’assenzio and later reunited for MTV Storytellers.
