The Blu Infinito is a Sardinian band that was formed in 2003 by Davide Ciscì (vocals, guitar, bass, and keyboards) and Gianmarco Vacca (drums).
The first demo "The Futily Songs," composed of 3 tracks, was released in 2004. Now, the band's line-up has seen some changes: Nicola Meloni joins on guitars, and Raphael Saini takes over drums from Gianmarco. The band's offering is categorized as melodic death, inspired by the great Swedish masters (Opeth above all). However, we are not faced with a band lacking its own identity: the melodic death is accompanied by the most diverse influences: black, prog, gothic… Moreover, the sounds are not cold and icy like those of Scandinavian groups, on the contrary, they are warm and enveloping, at times almost maritime.
The tracks are all long, complex and well-crafted, alternating classic bursts with more measured and emotional moments. Davide's singing is excellent, incisive and intense, although in the sections sung cleanly, he is quite reminiscent of a certain Mikael Åkerfeldt. (I don't think it's necessary to specify who he is!). The first track, "Place For Forgiveness," is opened by romantic acoustic guitars that are later replaced by electric ones. I would like to compliment the latter, truly sensational. The aggressive parts are excellent, featuring a very respectable rhythm section, but also the slower and more evocative ones, which are closer to waves and sun than the typical Scandinavian forests. Even "Cause The Rain" opens with acoustic guitars only to become much darker, more rhythmic, and combative in its progression. It is the track that, above all, most closely approaches Opeth's offering, but in the acoustic sections with acoustic singing, it recalls another band, this time Italian: I Novembre.
The last track of the Demo is "Adagio From The Moon," which opens more aggressively than the previous tracks. Various changes of tempo and atmospheres follow, although its mild flavor, which permeates the entire work, remains unchanged. In some instances, the intervention of keyboards and technical skills represents the icing on the cake of the track, which concludes masterfully. The Blu Infinito offer us an excellent demo, and although there are some naiveties, I feel inclined to recommend this album to all lovers of less canonical melodic death and the aforementioned bands.
