The Light of the Night
The Cubist movement is based on decomposition in order to represent various aspects of reality after a careful and non-random recomposition, and it is on this concept that a whole work of physical collages is based, leading to a complex and multifaceted result. This concept is very often associated with painting or at most architecture, but in my opinion, it can often be linked to music, as in the case of Blockhead, where the coexistence of multiple genres results in something completely different from each component, highlighting the hidden facets of the utilized sounds.
"Music by cavelight" is solitary and nocturnal music, with simple and almost monotonous percussion forming a backdrop to vocal samples accompanied by sinister and synthetic basslines over which fragile and tragic melodies travel, revealing the soul and passions of the DJs. The various faces of the cube that Blockhead highlights allow for free interpretation, the music attacks the mind, stimulating it, leaving the mood and sensitivity of the listener to do the rest, resulting in a sense of mystery and pain that spreads from the street to the center of the room and vice versa.
The range of colors and sounds expands and focuses, perfectly adapting to the atmosphere of a metropolis, a nocturnal journey ranging from breakbeat to electronic, from funk to jazz, from hip-hop orphaned of the MC to ambient.
The pieces come and go like yellow and red landscapes observed from the window of a train, moving, distant and close, spaces to fill with thoughts, a sonic experience that encapsulates the essence of the "journey", a visual and auditory blend developing a misleading and melancholic film, soothing and slightly flawed.
Desperate and cold music, photophobic and deaf, exploiting modern harmonization techniques, speeding up and slowing down time as if it were a love story. An occasionally extraordinary cinematic work, simple and brimming with music, despite its minimal essence, aphrodisiac and fertile, a sound that is instantly home or street as if it were a single environment, a flow of patterns within which anyone can find their own city no matter how small, with that smoky club inside marked by colorful and soft lights where time stops.
Music for the small hours, introspective and dark, impressive in all its sincerity.
