Bloc Party is an English indie rock band formed in London, best known for their debut album Silent Alarm (2005). Over their career they blended post-punk-derived guitar work with later electronic experimentation.

Fronted by Kele Okereke, the original lineup included Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong. Later lineup changes added Justin Harris and Louise Bartle. Critics praise Silent Alarm and note a stylistic shift toward electronics on albums such as Intimacy and Hymns.

DeBaser's coverage of Bloc Party praises their 2005 debut Silent Alarm heavily while giving mixed to critical responses to several later albums. Reviews note a shift toward electronic textures on Intimacy and Hymns and a partial return to guitar-driven songs on Alpha Games. Live reports and EPs are present but secondary to studio-recorded milestones.

For:Fans of indie rock, post-punk revival and listeners interested in the evolution of a British band across guitar-driven and electronic phases.

The Bloc Party, third, disappoint the part of me that was honestly passionate about "Silent Alarm".

Hymns is pleasant to listen to, as much as it would be if at first I was bewildered by these new Bloc Party, it is equally true that repeated listens have soothed my initial dismay, in favor of a growing appreciation for an album, probably a transition one, as is often said in these cases.
