Do I have to give an objective rating to this album? Well, I read the six reviews before mine where the album was always described positively, a positive change in the band that was always fixated on that damn arpeggio (which is also true), a step forward in monotony that seemed never-ending.. So I'm thinking that I'm the idiot and conservative one who doesn't appreciate changes. As far as I'm concerned, it's impossible to give an objective rating, so I'll just say what I think..
In fact, while other albums, for example "Chuck" by Sum41, pleasantly surprised me with their change, this one totally disappointed me. The songs that want to bring back at least a bit of speed (for example, "Feeling This") are too contrived and pop, while all the others (at least for me) are hard to digest, like the much-praised "All of This" with the collaboration of The Cure. That's what I mean. Before this album, the two genres were practically opposite. It would be like if a death metal band recruited Celine Dion for a duet. One was (used to be) carefree playful and innocent, while the other was dull and reflective. One of the few songs I like is "Down", but few others are to my liking.
Let's face it, Blink from a musical standpoint have always been nothing, but at least before they could be likable. I bet they wouldn't have the guts anymore to make a funny video like "Josie". Let's hope for the new track ("Up All Night") that should be released soon, even if they leaked that it would be something between Box Car Racer, Rush, and The Cure. I don't think I can add anything else.
