Rating: Recording of a historic Sabbath concert on December 20, 1970 at the Olympia in Paris.
Listening to this bootleg, one fully realizes the sonic delirium proposed by the Sabbath in those years, how they were so "different" from all the music of that period.
The delirious voice of Ozzy and the unhealthy and dark guitar of Iommi manage to create a truly hallucinatory atmosphere, light years away from everything that was being offered in those years. Every time I hear early Sabbath (up to '75) I can't understand how they managed to produce those sounds and those riffs, so simple yet so full of charm. I can't imagine what it must have been like to see them live...
The memorable moments of the concert are numerous, there is not a single track that does not convey a feeling of discomfort and deep emotion. Above all the tracks, "Black Sabbath," a unique delirium with Ozzy's heartbreaking voice perfectly counterbalancing Iommi's off-key chords.
Listening to bootlegs like this, one realizes how seminal the influence of Sabbath has been on all subsequent music, an influence that continues heavily even today. The greatest band in the world, although I'm not sure everyone has realized it.
