This is a DVD that features a concert by Zakk Wylde's band held in Detroit in 2004.
Zakk, Ozzy's band's first guitarist for 17 years now, performs with his group (which includes Metallica's new bassist Rob Trujillo and the talented Catanese on guitar) in Detroit with a setlist that offers a good overview of the band's repertoire.
Wylde has three musical souls: one tied to country-southern rock à-la Lynyrd Skynyrd, one tied to the monolithic riffs of Tony Iommi, and another to the most extreme virtuosity of Eddie Van Halen.
In this concert, the second soul predominates clearly: the proposed songs are very, very "heavy" without ever lapsing into senseless cacophonies. Zakk also sings all the songs.
The initial Demise Of Sanity, All For You, Bleed For Me, and Superterrorizer are the highlights of the barrage of metal songs that engulfed the "poor" unsuspecting audience in Detroit. But there is also room for the other two souls! The Skynyrd-esque Spoke In The Wheel is the calm between the storms; it is followed by a monstrous guitar solo in which Zakk plays his favorite scales at lightning speed, even with his teeth and the guitar behind his back!
Curiosity: the Limp Bizkit are repeatedly insulted... who knows what they did/said to deserve it!
The DVD also contains delightful features: a fabulous acoustic set, the national anthem performed before an NHL game, guitar lessons given by Zakk himself, and... a little song sung with his daughter!
In short: 20.00 euros to see one of the greatest rock-blues guitarists of all time both on and off the stage: ok, the price is right!
