Saying that an album makes you sleep generally shouldn't be a compliment. This is if we are talking about rock records.
But if the record is the work of a New Zealander who sings the poems written over the last two years, then the soporific effect might also be considered from a different perspective.
"Without The World" is exactly this, delicate poems whispered over ethereal and hypnotic bases. The resulting effect is that of a perpetual lullaby. Hence, the monotony of the album in this case does not necessarily come across as a critique.
But the album is not just soporific chants identical to themselves.
Tracks like “Fantastic Frown” are examples of how it is possible to create perfectly balanced songs between ambient atmospheres and sweetly folk melodies.

The album thus works both as a great lullaby but also (and above all) as a collection of delicate songs with which to relax and get carried away into the ethereal and dreamlike world of Birds of Passage.
