"Removed" is a 2010 album that, in my opinion, is extremely underrated.
It's almost as if no one knows about it, yet upon listening, it stands out as one of the most successful and listenable Country, Rock, and Blues albums of the 2000s.
The artist and author in question is Billy Burke, who is not only a very talented musician and guitarist but also a fairly famous actor in the United States. Among the most well-known films he's acted in, I can mention the entire Twilight saga where Burke plays the protagonist's father, or his secondary yet important roles in the films "Fracture" with Anthony Hopkins or "Red Riding Hood" where Billy Burke plays the villain. I could also mention many other films with Burke, such as "Untraceable" or the more famous "Drive Angry" with Nicolas Cage, or "Ladder 49" where Burke acts alongside John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix. Certainly, it is mostly in TV series that this actor shines in leading roles, such as in the series "Revolution," a really well-designed show unfortunately prematurely canceled after just two seasons. Billy Burke, besides being an actor, is also a musician with years of experience and, in my opinion, is too underrated. In Italy, very few know his first album, "Removed".
"Removed" was released in 2010, precisely on June 22nd. This album features particular sounds, a mix of folk, country, rock, and indie music.
In online reviews, both American and others, this album is rated at the highest by everyone who has listened to it. All the tracks on the album are of great quality, easy to listen to, with a sincere, immediate sound. The songs are all very personal, yet anyone could find themselves in the artist's experiences.
The first track, "Son," is a piece of raw Country music, with a particular, modern charm. Billy Burke's voice is truly a surprise, a thousand times better than one might expect. A voice born for Rock. The various compelling choruses in the tracks "Removed" and "Vodka knows" are excellent, where you feel the atmosphere of Bob Dylan or Neil Young.
In my opinion, a spectacular track that absolutely must be heard is "Killing Everyone": it's criminal that it's not in the history of the greatest rock songs, and I'm not exaggerating. It's a track that talks about romantic jealousy; upon listening, it seems like you've known it forever. Then, "Ballad of an Overnight Success" has a beautiful piano intro. The entire album is magical; it might not seem that way at first listen, but it's after that you begin to appreciate it more and more. I consider Billy Burke's "Removed" a rare, wonderful product that today deserves much, much more success.
