THE REVIEW

"The World According To Pablo"
that is, the world according to Pablo is singable and carefree

"Well, if you’re ready, we’re ready. This is the world according to Pablo…".

This is how the ultimate summer album begins. I used to think that the real summer songs were inside the happy hour, you you, po-popopo-poporo, firulì firulà world hold on, siamo una squadra fortissimi... and instead, I had to rethink that! "The World According To Pablo" for me, quietly, has become the most summery album of 2006!

How long has it been since we savored such a fresh work? Billie the vision (Lars Lindquist, I suppose) and the dancers make us dance in a quirky, elusive, and sunny concept album like all the influences that peek into these songs.

Billie and his friends are seven, they come from Sweden, they are on their second recorded effort (which seems to lack anything strenuous!) and they have a great desire to have fun, entertain, and move. Their music sounds very distant from the frosty Nordic atmospheres, it approaches an acoustic pop imbued with a Spanish-like, choral, and carefree spirit.
Just listen to the first track, "I'm Pablo", to realize it: we are immediately catapulted into the world according to Pablo, a world of rapid strumming and singing trumpets. Killer choruses and catchy melodies skillfully mixed make unforgettable tracks like "Nightmares", "A Man From Argentina", "One More Full Length Record" and "Vamos A Besarnos".

In Pablo's world, there are also intimate and whispered moments of vocal embroidery, brushed arpeggios, and violin caresses, as in "Go To Hell", "I Let Someone Else In" and in the poetic conclusion of "Goodnight Sweetheart". Describing it seems simple, but by listening to the album, you will realize that between the verses, the choruses, and the riffs of winds and violin, there is a brilliance that in these times of indie bands often too similar and flat (both on the acoustic and electro side) is not a small thing. It is not a small thing at all, if we realize we are holding eleven perfect "pop" songs in our hands that leave a mark and never tire.

What more could you want? A happy hour? A squadra fortissimi? No: just to be able to download all their full tracks for free in the "Music" section of the official site http://www.billiethevision.com/
