In the chaos of musical publications in which Bill Laswell has been a collaborator, I have always preferred this artist as a frontman of himself for the realization of his own albums. This is one of his most successful productions of the last 10 years.
Laswell ventures into creating an ethno-ambient work with Far Eastern atmospheres mixed into a masterful avant-garde Drum 'n' Bass. In this album, he manages to amalgamate two musically diametrically opposed worlds. It draws from Western sounds that are atmospherically slow and muffled by Laswell's bass, almost hypnotic, to colorful percussion that embraces flutes and raw Indian string instruments, eventually exploding into ethnic dances.
An album recorded partly in New York, partly in New Delhi and Bombay. It features only 2 tracks about 20 minutes each:
shyvamythscience (23:36)
black ice (24:37)
To be listened to in a room with a lit candle and sandalwood incense.
