They originally disbanded in 1997 and reunited for tours starting in 2019.

Core lineup: Kathleen Hanna (vocals), Tobi Vail (drums), Kathi Wilcox (bass), Billy Karren (guitar). Early releases were associated with Kill Rock Stars; the Bikini Kill EP was produced by Ian MacKaye. Origin: Olympia, Washington.

Two DeBaser reviews frame Bikini Kill as riot grrrl catalysts from Olympia, Washington, with fierce, feminist punk. Maryg spotlights the self-titled EP (produced by Ian MacKaye) and its raw, lo-fi impact and themes against gender violence. Kurtd hails Pussy Whipped’s speed, screams, and rallying anthems like Rebel Girl. The band’s influence on alternative and female punk scenes is emphasized.
