THE REVIEW

It's the boredom that hits you on certain evenings, you don't even watch TV anymore, Facebook brings up the same old stuff, and even the music you listen to every day doesn't cheer you up; but then a friend of mine writes to me: "Hey Gian, listen to these: Big Troubles, I know you've been listening to My Bloody Valentine lately."

Well, so I go on "the tube" and listen to a bit of the latest "work Romantic Comedy," too twee pop I think, you can hear the dream and shoegaze nuances but they're so, too rarefied; then I notice that last year (2010) they did another work "Worry," I start "Video Rock" and it overwhelms me.

This is how "Worry" starts, reading a bit around, it's said that the work was previously recorded and then subsequently fixed over these rudimentary recordings, that's why it sounds very, very lo-fi mixed with this wall of sound that never lets you go.

"Video Rock" keeps pounding in your head, you can't quite tell if it's more '80s or '90s, but it certainly takes a lot of cues from "My Bloody Valentine," and in "Modern Intimacy" the "sanguine" elements are felt, a lot. "Bite Yr Tongue" stays in those early '90s dream-shoegaze nuances, "Slouch" is one of the more rocking songs, while "Georgia" is the darkest and slowest, at first glance it reminded me a lot of the '80s dark-wave scene, "Freudian Slips" goes hand in hand with "Bite Yr Tongue," which is a hypothetical sister, cheerful and carefree. "Drastic And Difficult" increases in noise and speed, the voice is even more filtered.

In the second part, there's a drop, probably due to the repetition of a certain sound that tires in the long run, but we certainly still find excellent pieces like "Desire For A Certain Thing To Happen," which mixes '60s sounds with a '90s synth; "Boomerang," which seems written by "The Jesus And Mary Chain" from "Psychocandy"; and "Opposites," which is my quirky pick of the batch. The album closes with "Astrology Screen Savers," a futuristic journey into space (amidst some heavy drugs), and only after 37 minutes and 21 seconds does the wall of sound stop, yes, only at the end of listening.
