Lamont Coleman (stage name Big L) was an American rapper from Harlem, a member of D.I.T.C., best known for his 1995 debut album Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous; he was murdered in February 1999 at age 24.

Member of D.I.T.C.; debut album released in 1995; producers on that album include Lord Finesse, Buckwild and Showbiz; album sold poorly on release and Columbia dropped him; several posthumous releases and compilations exist.

Two DeBaser reviews praise Big L's 1995 album Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous for its flawless production and lyrical virtuosity. Reviewers highlight singles like "Put It On" and "M.V.P.", posse cuts featuring Jay-Z and Cam'ron, and recommend the vinyl for extra tracks. Both note the tragic, early death of Lamont Coleman.

For:Fans of 1990s East Coast hip hop, lyricists, collectors of classic rap albums

not one of the fourteen tracks here shows the slightest stylistic weakness, the productions by Finesse, Buckwild, Showbiz, and one Craig Boogie (honestly, I don't know who he is but he rocks) never fall below a level of excellence, and Lamont Coleman (L's real name) makes excellent use of them, rapping with a beautiful, unmistakable, and recognizable flow after just one listen, acrobatic metrics and lyrics filled with sharp irony.

Some gunshots took him away. Right in front of his house. A cold February 8 years ago. He was only 24 years old.
