Big Big Train is an English progressive rock band formed in 1990 by Greg Spawton and Andy Poole, known for narrative concept albums and richly arranged, folk‑tinged prog.

Lineups have included David Longdon (lead vocals, multi-instrumentalist), Dave Gregory (formerly of XTC) and Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Beard). David Longdon served as lead singer and multi-instrumentalist and died in 2021.

A DeBaser review of Grimspound praises Big Big Train's narrative, richly arranged progressive-folk sound. Highlights include the multi-part epic "Brave Captain", the 15-minute "A Mead Hall in Winter" and the Judy Dyble duet "The Ivy Gate". The reviewer names the album among the year's top ten and recommends it despite its 1h7' length.

“Albert you were special, one of a kind The stars in your eyes turned others blind. Did the gods want you back or the goddess cry Were the heavens alone without you? Were the angels sworn to take you back home To the halls of Valhalla where the brave can roam And the horn of honour in tribute be blown?”
