Biffy Clyro started by copying Nirvana, then they learned to play and wanted to imitate Sunny Day Real Estate. That's it... they started, like all honest people, wanting to imitate their favorite band and then trying to become their favorite band.
A song has so many microcosms that it seems to be a concentrated album. Some find it tiring, but not everyone. There are riffs, time changes, odd times, ballads, bearded women, songs to sing when you're drunk, fire eaters, songs to sing in the shower, tiger tamers, and a single that makes the heart go BOOM BOOM ("Questions and Answers"). Then: a good record even when you're in a good mood.
In 2007 they broke through. In London, they even play them inside McDonalds... I don't know if that's a good thing, but at least the line feels shorter. These guys pump, they play hard, record in a day (this record, released in 2003, was recorded in one day and you can tell) and sweat liters of sweat... OK: end of commercial break.
Let's do this, buy the album, spend those ten euros on the album while I spend the money on Topexan... after all, we save a lot on Guttalax.
