I was almost letting myself get infected. I've always been opposed to geographical divisions, especially when it comes to music and art in general. Unfortunately, despite my good intentions, reality turned into prose and not poetry.
The new British invasion is something that would make anyone want to throw their balls to the ground. The Arctic Monkeys, the Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park, Bloc Party, and all these new groups of spoiled brats for spoiled brats were making me become racist (to be honest, it's not just their fault... of all English music, I only save Joy Division, The Cure, and My Bloody Valentine).
Anyway, London was a disappointment. Rock discos everywhere, Oasis records displayed as if they came out the day before, teenagers all dressed the same... I mean, you leave Naples for a while because you're tired of the show-offs and you find yourself among idiots all dressed the same (just like the Neapolitan show-offs) with Beatles-style bangs (I believe the half-wits in England do it more to imitate Oasis... can you be any more stupid?). In any case, I understood why such crap music had its epicenter in London.
That being said, you understand the premises. So we can move on to the album.
One afternoon I was watching MTV Brand New... Bloc Party video, Mando Diao video (and here comes the... WHO?)... I was starting to get really annoyed.
A video begins: the band is Biffy Clyro (the name makes me think of Spyro... the PlayStation game) and the song is called "Glitter And Trauma". At first, I thought they were a side project of Ryan from Motorpsycho... but then in the chorus, there are backing vocals with a voice identical to Saether's, and I thought: what the hell have Motorpsycho done now?
Convinced it was them, I asked the mule to lend me (notice I'm winking?) an album by this Biffy Clyro... and I ended up with Infinity Land (2005) chosen from the wheel of Naples for no reason.
For a couple of days, I listened to the bulky little disc believing that this band was a parallel project, but very parallel since there's nothing similar, except an incredible physical resemblance, with my favorite Norwegian trio. This lasted until I asked my official source of information (Google)... WHAT WHAT? They're from Glasgow?... damn, so it's not Ryan?
No dear Alessio. The guy is Simon Neil and alternates a melodic voice with screams so unruly they sound like a pig being slaughtered.
In short... summing up: Biffy Clyro is a trio that plays fast and powerful indie that transforms multiple times within a single song without ever being boring. They're Scottish and released their fourth album (Puzzle) on June 4th, 2007, which I'm sure will make them famous... want to bet?
While searching on Google, I stumbled across this interview:
Question: What fascinates you about the quiet/loud dynamic that you also frequently use on the new album?
Answer: That is hard to put into words why it is fascinating for us, but it just always has been. Ever since back when we were in school, and we were watching MTV music awards or something like that and we saw Nirvana for the first time playing 'Lithium'. Just that dynamic, I had never been aware that they are doing that before then. It just blew me away. I was listening to techno music at the time, but just hearing that dynamic totally changed my life I think.
End of the story. What a pity... and to think I even bought a T-shirt with 'mind the gap' written on it. Damn just now that my hair was starting to get bowl-shaped (long live Nino). Now I understand why Biffy Clyro aren't half-wits (and not just because they're Scottish). THE HATE begins again.

02 Strung to Your Ribcage (02:39)
You'll never catch me.
My belly is black, and, red.
Black and red. [x3]
You complete me.
Fucking say it, fucking say it, fucking say it.
It's like you're meant to be a hostage, another hostage, will eat you alive.
Fucking say it, fucking say it, fucking say it.
I take it for granted, that you'll feel at home.
You complete me.
When you flirt it makes me nauseous, I'm fucking nauseous, and I'll eat you... alive.
I take it for granted, that you'll feel at home.
Emotions never change, only towards you.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribcage.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribcage.
Inflamed, in every other way, in every other way.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribcage.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribcage.
Inhale, the splinters and the rain, the splinters and the rain.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribcage.
Look down, I'm strung to your ribs.
Ooh,ooh. [x4]
08 Only One Word Comes to Mind (04:39)
This time
its now or never
the ones we are
supposed to bow to
In time we all crawl
believe in believe in me
In time we all fall
through her fingers
Its alright to hide away
underneath the ocean
Open up the way
I have to feel right
In time we all saw
Him upon up her
These words won't help you
If you're looking for answers
These words won't help you
It's alright to hide away
Underneath the ocean
Open up the way
I have to feel right
12 The Weapons Are Concealed (03:30)
I'm wearing it
I'm wearing it under my face
An expression and an admission of my disgrace
But I'm sure I will make it ok
I will try try to give you something better
I'm wearing it today
But I'm sure I will make it ok
I will try try to give you something better
You with the grin on your face
Me with the bag in it's place
I've put a rope round my neck
I'm trying to win your respect
Conceal the weapons! Conceal the weapons!
Death shares everything I have
Conceal the weapons! Conceal the weapons!
But I hate the way I...
Conceal the weapons! (x8)
Blame it on the staring match between the two of us
