Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) was an English composer, conductor and pianist, best known for his operas, choral works and chamber music.

Frequent collaborator with tenor Peter Pears and librettist Myfanwy Piper; co‑founder of the Aldeburgh Festival; major works include Peter Grimes, The Turn of the Screw, Death in Venice and the War Requiem.

Danny The Kid's five DeBaser reviews praise Britten as a major 20th-century opera composer. Peter Grimes is presented as his signature success; The Turn of the Screw and Death in Venice are highlighted for psychological depth and refined chamber scoring. A Midsummer Night's Dream is noted for vocal ambition and inventive casting; Gloriana is seen as uneven but containing striking moments.
