Belvedere is a Canadian melodic-hardcore-punk band. Their career extended from 1995 to 2005 (and from 2007 onwards if you consider that 2 members of the band later founded This Is A Standoff, another quite appealing melodic-hc group).
In 2001, this "Twas Hell Said Former Child" came to light, which embodies the idea of how punk should be made today. Simple and easy-to-listen melodies, speed of the tracks, slowdowns, and frequent changes of rhythm, that's how you make a good melodic hardcore album. Simplicity is the main ingredient to succeed in a genre like this, experimentation can easily be left to other genres because there's no room here for elements that might lead to boredom. It's better this way.
With an average of two and a half minutes per track and a simplicity that is never unwelcome and not at all trivial, this album is part of the category of records that should be learned from to make punk rock in the new millennium. It may not be a masterpiece, but it's more than enough.
