With Belladonna, everything is legend. The recording studio used for this latest work of theirs is the same as used by Patti Smith, Brian Wilson, and Tom Waits. The role of engineer was entrusted to Mike Tacci, who worked on the Black Album of the Metallica.
Listening to Belladonna is like witnessing the last waves of a sea filled with a past that doesn't want to dry up. Like a time machine, their sound brings us back to that gritty, intimate, and noir rock that characterized the music scenes of the '80s. Throughout the twenty tracks, the listener is left with a Hamlet-like doubt between brilliance and something already heard that could have been avoided. Of course, the artistic peculiarity of this third album does everything to veer towards a music already heard, but it's still of good quality. So we leave room for rock ballads and moments that touch on the dark, all mixed with current contaminations that make "And There Was Light" an album certainly cult among lovers of nostalgic rock.
In short, there are only two things left to do. Either someone wakes up Belladonna by telling them we're in 2011, or we let their musical hibernation continue, enjoying sounds that bring to mind many dusty memories.
