THE REVIEW

Definitely devastating.

In addition to the excellent artistic attribute mentioned above, this masterpiece of heavy death also boasts a perfectly fitting opening, which gently invites you to maintain a regular headbanging rhythm throughout the following ten tracks.

A suitably unsettling intro, some very fast and sharp triplets on the ride, and then the explosion of the powerful and extremely violent Inferno (the group's drummer) who dominates over everything else on the CD with incredibly powerful rhythms and killer fills on the toms that could melt an M60.

Nergal's guitar, with its slow and melodic riffs (and at times acoustic!!), provides a great contrast with the rhythm guitar and bass, Siamese twins of the crushing bass drum.

Yes, it's a masterpiece, even if not too original (the influence of Morbid Angel is FELT), but my rating isn't the highest for another reason: Novy, who is one of the most skilled and creative bassists of Brutal (but nobody touch Alexander Webster), is NOT HEARD on this CD, and as a devotee of the supreme art of the electric bass, I cannot tolerate it!

Summary by Bot

Behemoth's Zos Kia Cultus is a devastating heavy death metal album featuring intense and powerful drumming by Inferno and melodic riffs by Nergal. The album maintains a steady headbanging rhythm over ten tracks with a fitting unsettling intro. Strong Morbid Angel influences are evident, although originality is somewhat limited. The only notable fault is the low bass presence of Novy, a highly skilled bassist, which slightly lowers the overall rating.

Behemoth

Behemoth is a Polish extreme metal band formed in 1991. Reviews describe an evolution from cold, atmospheric black metal in the mid-1990s to a more technical blackened death metal style from Satanica onward, with drummer Inferno and frontman/guitarist-vocalist Nergal frequently highlighted.

The mix between death and black here is carried out skillfully and never seems to be a cut and paste of their works from the early '00s.

'O Father, O Satan, O Sun!' incorporates practically all the aforementioned sounds without ever seeming redundant and constantly keeping the listener’s attention alive.
