THE REVIEW

If it were
a flower, it would be a graft of a Lion's Heart onto a cactus (if that were possible)
a city, New York or some other American metropolis, but I could also see Calcutta being fitting
a book, Naked Lunch by W. Burroughs, but also City by Baricco (but read on alternate pages)
a film, Brazil by Terry Gilliam, but also Helzapopping by Henry Potter (that's exactly the director's name!)
a letter, X because it's one of the most strange and curious in the alphabet
if it were a designer, it would be Jean Paul Gautier but I could also see it as Dolce & Gabbana
an actor, definitely Johnny Depp or Ben Stiller
a color, acid green but with a hint of gray that dulls it
an expression, “oibò!” but for many also “eccheccazzo!”
a fruit, a pomegranate with all red seeds tumbling everywhere
a TV series, "Lost" (with no alternatives)
if it were an appliance, it would be an Alessi spring toaster
a car, a latest model English Mini Minor but also a Smart covered in all advertising stickers
a review, it would be halfway between those of the Punisher and those of Odradek, but perhaps even less
a sound, “Boing!” but also “Stumpf!”
an outfit, a pair of jeans from any discount store but with a very low rise
a woman, Uma Thurman but also Renée Zellweger (the one from Bridget Jones)
If it were a great record it would instead have
a standard review,
have sold millions of copies,
a place in the History of Rock,
a privileged position in my discotheque,
something worth remembering it for…

Summary by Bot

The review uses vivid metaphors to describe Beck's album The Information, highlighting its eclectic and unconventional nature. Despite these creative comparisons, the album is seen as lacking a definitive impact or memorable success. It neither achieves massive sales nor secures an iconic place in rock history, leaving it somewhat forgettable in the critic's view.

There are more styles, sounds, and genres in this album than in the decade-long production of entire labels.

Surely the work of a genius-wannabe rather than a genius.

The sound vortex is back in town.

The funk/disco/folk/psycho/rap/pop/electroclash mosaic suffices to absorb songs like 'We Dance Alone', 'Elevator Music' or 'Motorcade' to elevate Man.
