Premise. I don’t know the Go-Betweens very well. Their name has been bouncing around my head for many years, but I’ve never really listened to much of their work. We're in Australia, Brisbane. After the silence from 1990 to 2000, the Go-Betweens returned with the two songwriters Robert Forster and Grant McLennan from the original 1977 lineup plus Adele Pickvance as bassist and vocalist, and Glenn Thompson as drummer and vocalist. Glenn Thompson had already collaborated with Robert Forster in the '90s. After McLennan's death in 2006, he decided to form Beachfield to give vent to his desire to write and perform songs. The result is "Brighton Bothways," which may remain the only one under this music project's name. Guitar, bass, and drums. A small gem of pop folk with delicate tones. As always, these works will remain unknown until a gust of wind throws them into the mix. If it ever arrives. It's always a shame because maybe it could have encouraged the author to continue down this path, or maybe he doesn't care tout court. The fact is, I love these little-known albums, snubbed by everyone, the music critics first and foremost. And if they don't talk about it, who should? Luckily, fragments have remained caught in the web, and I randomly came across them, intrigued by the low cost of the used CD and the cover image, I listened to them on the tube. Wow. There's nothing like hearing with your own ears. Words are often misleading. It’s a must-have in my collection, I immediately thought. "Coles to Newcastle," the album's first track, is perhaps the most marketable, but "Oneway Ticket" and "Birds Eye View" are also very beautiful. "Danish Kronor" is beyond words. Better to say nothing, it might disappear. Listening to this album is like stepping out of a messy room and into another where everything is in its right place.
