American experimental rock/math-rock group formed in 2002, noted for tightly interlocked rhythms, electronic processing and the interplay of human and machine-like sounds. Early lineup included Ian Williams, John Stanier, Dave Konopka and Tyondai Braxton (who later left).

Signed to Warp Records for major releases; debut full-length Mirrored released in 2007. Tyondai Braxton left the band prior to Gloss Drop (2011).

DeBaser reviews praise Battles' originality, rhythmic precision and clash of human/electronic sounds. Mirrored is frequently highlighted as a landmark. Later albums and live shows receive mixed but largely appreciative responses.

For:listeners of experimental/math rock, post-rock fans, Warp Records followers

It is becoming increasingly rare and difficult for me to find an album to listen to from start to finish without feeling an irritating sense of deep boredom.

In conclusion, definitely one of the most original albums of this year. If you are among those who seek new sounds, "Mirrored" is highly recommended.
