Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, pioneers ahead of their time, Basic Channel: the cult, the absolute pinnacle of techno and dub techno of the '90s, the German duo who, in a few years, would release a handful of EPs in the underground scene under various monikers (Maurizio, Cyrus, Quadrant, Basic Channel), which were nothing short of fundamental for all techno and electronic music to come. BCD 2 is the third compilation on CD from the label (the first were BCD and Maurizio) and unlike the first two chapters, the tracks are not edited, allowing you to enjoy the long tracks in full extended version as on vinyl, all released on EP between '93 and '94. Ideally almost split in half, the collection is so well structured that it possesses all the qualities of a proper album, with a first part featuring minimalist yet emotionally charged tracks and a second part that is literally spectral and rarefied, where only the mechanized groove reigns supreme.
"Enforcement," a floating monolith emitting radioactive surges, looms for nearly fifteen minutes immobile, amidst suffocating beats, nervous breakdowns, and sounds sharp as blades, in "Phylyps Trak" the geometric and mathematical noise becomes the undisputed master, every sound is perfect, crafted with a sense of detail that borders on the obsessive, something already in itself new in the techno scene of those years, generally much rawer, dirtier, and angular at the sound level.
"Inversion": its devastating groove and its vibrant luminous streaks, filled with a sense of torrential emotion, drag you far away, into the darkness, and also towards the second part of the record composed of "Octagon" "Octaedre" and "Phylyps Trak II/II", beyond the darkness, beyond any conscious state, deadly, insistent, destabilizing basslines, dub reduced to a skeleton, techno sucked inside galactic vortexes and spit out with no drop of vitality left, an eerie sonic immobilism, mute, total. Basic Channel: music for electric bodies, music for new neural pathways, avant-garde.
