From the deep south to the rest of the world, quality world music is united in the project Banda Ionica, which brings together different personalities and experiences from our best music. Much has been said about world music, but perhaps the most appropriate definition is "music without borders," which unites without globalizing and is understandable beyond its origins and language.
The project features Fabio Barovero (Mau Mau) as the author of some tracks, while other tracks, some of which are instrumental, come from traditional music, also used by band groups in processions. Brass and percussion alternate, clash, and chase each other, while images of the Madonna in processions unfold; you can feel the atmosphere and warmth of the south and, in the end, even the scent of a summer evening on the Ionian Sea.
Various "guests" include Roy Paci (co-author), Vinicio Capossela (Santissima dei naufragati), Ermanno Giovanardi from La Crus (Come l'aria), Cristina Zavalloni and Le Loup Garou (Mi votu e mi rivotu), Arthur H (Raissa), El Mono Loco from the Spanish band Macaco (Espinita), and Josh Sanfelici.
A beautiful album, but not a surprise given the names involved; however, it's not an easy listen, especially at certain points, to love or to hate, and maybe that's what makes it magical. Favorite track: Santissima dei naufragati (sorry, but I'm biased)
