The claustrophobia of Metal Box by PIL first of all, the meandering of Poptones; a hint of Can, of Pere Ubu (uh!), Killing Joke, with spices of Nine Inch Nails. Stephen Morris's drum kit purchased on eBay. The Damage Manual, the first great band of the 21st Century... Jah Wobble, Martin Atkins, Geordie Walker, Chris Connelly...?
No, the Balaclavas, with a skewed telescope pointed from Houston to Rome, on the Ides of March and not on the Roman Holiday, of which I Tunes reads the genre as Experimental.
Seven tracks (plus a negligible remix of Vuitton that really feels like Fodderstompf) that have the virtue of synthesis (completed in 35’20”) and of well-crafted arrangements, among calibrated reverberations (fine stuff in “Night Worship,” the sax extracted from Twin Peaks) and dub hints, tracing a subtle dark line that is intriguing and inviting.
Will Lansdale like them? Definitely Miss KosmoGabri, my regards, considering the frequency of her listens.
