I believe that one of the strengths of music is its ability to detach people from their surroundings, catapulting them directly into another world, and this is precisely what the AVOX project (composed of John Campbell and David Hodges) primarily aims to do. The album (comprising 16 tracks) is entirely instrumental, hence there is no trace of vocals, just music.
It starts with the almost obsessive progression of "The War", followed by the violins of "The Deep", and from here, one is already surprised by how the tracks, in terms of expressiveness, do not suffer at all from the absence of a vocalist, who would indeed be superfluous, and how they are able to transport the listener.
The tracks (all of high quality, as the album indeed has no compositional lows) flow pleasantly, leading to pieces like "The Attack", where a drum with a repeated rhythm will be the prominent instrument, "The Legacy", a piece that will be capable of moving you quite a lot (one of the most beautiful tracks of the entire work), the excellent fusion of piano and electronics in "The Breach", leading up to the highlight of the work composed of "The Source", where time seems to almost surrender and stop before this composition of piano and synthetic elements, and "The Sacrifice", an almost angelic piece with a great emotional impact in which it will seem like witnessing someone's ascension to the beyond.
However, discussing individual tracks is reductive, as it is in its entirety that the album shows its strength, dragging you from the first moment into a dimension where the passage of time is not allowed.
Recommended for those seeking something different from the usual.
