The Avion Travel certainly do not lack courage. Reinterpreting the world of Paolo Conte in eleven acts is at least a daring endeavor.
Let's say right away that if the mission was to resurrect so-called lesser gems from his vast discography, then the operation can be considered perfectly successful.
The new versions shine with their own light. Listen after listen, the journey often veers in different directions from the originals.
With the lawyer, the unstable reigns, and one escapes up and down throughout the twentieth century. The exotic is evoked, mirages created with atmospheres sometimes nervous, sometimes dreamy.
With Avion Travel, one enters forcefully into the present of a metropolis with a Neapolitan soul. One glides over the warm Mediterranean shores propelled by the sublime chords of guitars and keyboards. The course is steady, the rhythms expand and the breaths slow down as in a poetic theatrical performance. The arrangements take on deep forms more akin to Italian melodic tradition.
Remarkable is Peppe Servillo's effort in initially chasing Conte's vocal footprints to merge them with his own in a hybrid with clear blue and romantic red tones.
In short, Avion Travel pedal, sweat, catch their breath, invent memorable variations, and reach the summit with a work to listen to and love without reservations.
It is worth remembering that the merits should be shared with the lawyer present as the artistic director, with his trusted producer Renzo Fantini and his percussionist Daniele Di Gregorio responsible for the orchestrations.
Perhaps the only flaw that can be easily forgiven is that of excessive perfectionism, resulting in a long and intensely desired gestation of the album.
I leave to the reader the discovery and commentary of the individual songs, at least two of which ("Aguaplano" and "Languida") surpass the original versions in beauty.

The Conte/Nannini pairing is precisely the symbol of the courage and fundamental success of the work.
The black sheep of the record, a fatal and grave error typical of the superiority complex that resides inside every overachiever.
