"No.. don't introduce her to me, she's hot.. but she doesn't do anything for me..."
"Oh.. but you'll see she's got skills. You'll have fun!"
"Pffff.. have her come to my place this afternoon..."
.. She came. She found me alone and rather horny. She flirted, was available, and sex soon took over us... we had fun for a while, then... goodbye.
Similarly, with the same friend... not long ago, I found myself discussing new music releases:
"What do you think of the latest from Avenged Sevenfold?"
"Who?? .. no please, I can't stand those guys!"
"Yeah, it's true... "Nightmare" won't change your life, but it's worth listening to... trust me!"
"Okay then... let's listen to it..."
Not everything appeals to me. The singer's voice is too nasal, the riffs feel like déjà vu... but... certain grooves do grab me ("Natural Born Killer").
The power of the title track and "God Hates Us" kick ass. And then... Synister Gates and Zacky Vengeance aren't exactly two nincompoops on the guitar... ("Buried Alive" and "Save Me"); not to mention the guest star on drums: Mr. Portnoy borrowed from Dream Theater.
In short: this album has a reason for being. Moreover, compared to the past, which I admit to knowing little about, they have developed a fair taste for melodic compositions, noticeable in the beautiful "Buried Alive," the almost acoustic "So Far Away," and especially in "Tonight World Dies" (atmospheres borrowed from Alice in Chains). However, my favorite song is "Victim": ...enjoy it!
Dedicated to the late The Rev, drummer and co-founder of the band, found lifeless in his Huntington Beach home, in the afternoon of December 28, 2009.
..I don't know how long it will entertain me.. if more or less than that woman.. but this time as well it wasn't a waste of time.
Rating: almost 4
The single "Nightmare" is a good punch to the stomach supported by a production that saying excellent is an understatement.
I ask you to listen to this CD as if you were a blank page, without preconceptions.
