Since 2002, I've been waiting for news from Tobias Sammet (also the creator of Edguy). This versatile musician has created what I define as the ultimate power group, Avantasia. Two masterpieces titled "The Metal Opera" and "The Metal Opera, Part II". As I was saying, since 2002 Avantasia had disappeared from the metal map (allow me this expression). Now they're back with this EP composed of two parts: "Lost In Space Part I" and "Lost In Space Part II" For convenience, I'll describe the two parts separately:

  1. "Lost In Space Part I": it begins with the title track. Lost In Space is a very commercial song, with a chorus designed to stick in your head, it almost feels like listening to Bon Jovi, you be the judge. Bittersweet. The second track is "Lay All Your Love On Me". I press play... but I've heard this song before... I listen to it a few more times... Abba!!!! It’s a cover of Abba, a song which I love anyway! Well, what can I say... nice! "Another Angel Down", the third track, starts to grind metal miles, more solid compared to the rest of the album. It doesn't thrill me that much, but it's noticeable. The fourth track "The Story Ain't Over"... guys, it's fabulousssss!!!! I've been listening to it for about an hour, you have to hear it to appreciate it, words can't do justice... classic Avantasia style, so crazy, piano, feeling... Oh my, how beautiful! A song like this is worth buying the two EPs! Silence, Avantasia is on... "Return To Avantasia" is a dreamy instrumental piece that lasts 48 seconds, inviting us to the next song of the set "Ride The Sky", perhaps the most experimental track of the whole lot, it feels like something from the '70s, a bit jazzy, all in all not bad.
  2. "Lost In Space Part II": begins again with the title track, in a more metallic version, nothing special really. "Promised Land", great choruses, fast pace, appreciable. "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" another breathtaking song, truly beautiful, a chorus that imprints itself in memory! Very beautiful!!! "Scary Eyes" is the classic song from good Tobias, embracing, fast, direct, in your face! We arrive at "In My Defence", beautiful, poignant, similar in some ways to "In Quest For" from the previous full-length, absolutely worth listening to! It ends as it started twice, with "Lost In Space" in a nearly instrumental version, soft music.

We are at the end, the conclusions. Now I wait to be able to judge the work in its entirety ("The Scarecrow" is expected to be released in early January).

At first glance, not exceptional, but after a few listens, I can be thankful that Avantasia is back! "The Story Ain't Over" made me fall in love, what are you waiting for to give this German a chance?
