A very rare and unique EP, distributed solely via mail order in that 1996, a year full of productions for the two Autechre. An EP decidedly ahead of its time, and one of the very first experiments in the digital and cerebral style that the Manchester duo would primarily develop a year later, with the arrival of "Chiastic Slide" and "Minidisc".

Being particularly engrossed also in the Gescom project - not infrequently a land of electro experiments - these same influences spill over rhythmically onto "We R Are Why", a playful and lighthearted track, not unlike the less cryptic tracks of "Tri Repetae", which even winks at that miami bass of which they are said to be great fans. An android and minimal beat, always with syncopated electro derivations, propels "Are Y Are We?" towards similar solutions, although initially there is very little playful and lighthearted here, bolstered by deep, menacing, cinematic analog riffs, this time reminiscent of the "Amber" organisms but here paired with the now usual background of micro-noises, micro-sounds, micro-layers more typical of late-nineties Autechre and, as will happen several times with later works, evolving as everything progresses, then taking on more earthly forms, daring a naive melodic infantilism reminiscent of Mouse on Mars.

The ideal meeting point between Gescom and Autechre.
