In this rare EP, Autechre presents us with two tracks that can be labeled as hybrids between the concept of remix, sampling, and the original track.
In the first track, "Weissensee Against Im Glück", they borrow two tracks from Neu!'s debut, "Weissensee" and "Im Glück", extract some parts, and reassemble them into a new piece, more precisely a unique mix between abstract hip hop and the downtempo of the darkest archetype, Tobin and K&D in practice; an experiment that certainly sounds more Gescom than Autechre, based on smoked beats, dark background textures, cryptic acids, and evolving very old-school synths, at times clearly indebted to the dreamy syntheticism of electronic krautrock; the technological closing finally helps those who were wondering if they were listening to Autechre or an old Ninja Tune!
No less strange is the second track, "At Drowning In A Sea Of Indiependance" (an unspecified remix of an equally unspecified band attributed as Bic? whose real existence is still under discussion); this time, it's a mix of experimental hip hop sounds in the "Envane" style and further references to Gescom releases, no technicalities or noisy masturbations, but only MPC, killer beats, four-step turntables, and overwhelming bass, with an interesting atmospheric background made of subtle ambient noises, distant voices, and not too reassuring droning layers, let's say a preview of the otherworldly sound we'll hear two years later on the monumental "Confield".
A different EP.
