In case someone missed it until now.
The Holograms, the unlucky cousins of Iceage, four guys from Sweden who haven't made the quality leap achieved by the Danes. Bastard heirs of those Cure from Pornography, of that heavy and dark post-punk with a gloomy attitude, almost goth stuff.
The voice is that of a Robert Smith singing in Killing Joke, bass guitar and drums always go straight and never go wrong, the thick synth gives that coldwave atmosphere that recalls the sad nights of Northern Europe, that point of contact that unites today's social-democratic Sweden with communist Poland of thirty years ago. With their self-titled debut in 2012, the Holograms still had to fully explore their potential, still find their own expressive form. Here there's only straight-up post-punk, perverse and a bit rogue, pure Pornography worship with the synthesizer. But damn if it works well. You can downgrade it to simple revival, but it's a classy revival.
