Zhang Yimou (born 1951) is a Chinese film director and a prominent figure of the Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmakers, known for visually rich dramas and wuxia epics.

Emerging from the Fifth Generation, Zhang Yimou gained international recognition for films including Raise the Red Lantern, The Story of Qiu Ju, Not One Less, Hero and House of Flying Daggers.
