Never confuse one scene with another, for heaven’s sake; so, if we’re talking about the New York scene, don’t think of bringing up San Francisco or Los Angeles, much less those bumpkins from Detroit. Max’s and CBGB’s may have been ten minutes apart and shared groups, but each had its own scene — confuse them and you’ll always find someone who gets mad.
