My new narrative today must start from a premise that I will quickly state.

Nothing and no one can ever come close to Black Sabbath; their first five albums remain, decades later, works carved in black granite. Masters and untouchable.

From Ozzy, Tommy, Bill, and Geezer began the revolution in Rock that gave birth to millions of bands; many have attempted to emulate the Birmingham quartet. But the Black Sabbath remains a sort of chimera that can never be reached. Still number ONE, still an example for everyone.

"Also Sprach GG" (with the supervision of DeMarga).

It is the second tribute collection that pays homage to them; released at the beginning of the new millennium.

Twelve bands engaged in as many tracks.

At least half are authors of authentic sonic bombs; there are also a couple of episodes that are embarrassing, to say the least.

Ozzy with Les's cousin's Primus; Machine Head, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, Monster Magnet; here are the names that offer, with versions very faithful to the original Sacred Scriptures, some of the immortal classic anthems created years ago by Sabbath.

It is up to Les's circular and stormy bass to open "N.I.B."; immediately after, almost simultaneously, comes that unforgettable, dense, macabre riff and the "cheeky" voice of Ozzy that still gives chills despite the passing of years. The final minute, with the bass raging and practically covering the other instruments, is pure enjoyment. Monumental version, no question.

There's no time to recover as Slayer arrives to devastate the listeners' eardrums and their instruments with a nitroglycerin version of "Hand of Doom": infernal to say the least, with a continuous and frightening growth thanks to the drums of a possessed Paul Bostaph. Devastating.

Monster Magnet extends, beyond eight minutes, a very sick version of "Into the Void", another super classic. Heavy, Stoner, Acid-Psychedelia come together and shatter any attempt at resistance. To be listened to at increasing volume, especially the last dozens of seconds. Earthshattering.

But as I said, there are also two glaring missteps: tracks number ten and twelve. They make me so disgusted that I can't say more. Try them yourselves and we'll talk about them again, maybe...YIKES...
