THE REVIEW

Flag bearers of the gothic post-punk genre for over thirty years. A cult group responsible for works of considerable depth, showcasing the best of their conception in the 1982-83 period.

Sounds that smile at the future Cocteau's "Treasure" and "Juju" by Siouxsie & The Banshees. Cliff Silver's spacey bass, Garce's romantic nostalgic voice, empathetic keyboards, and Tristan Garel-Funk's guitar basking in crystalline arpeggios.

The second album, "Feeding The Flame," arrived in 1982, following the solid debut of "Epic Garden Music."

"Big Tracks Little Tracks" immediately announces the imprint given to the ambient style. There's a change, a maturation, stripping away the more naive aspects of their debut and enhancing the structures. The tracks shine with their own light, promising a bright compositional future, which, however, won't be incredibly prolific and kind to them.

"Sleep (Is For Everyone)" is the gem of the album. Everything you expect from post-punk, a child of the soft yet icy melody of New Order, without risking a plagiarism for its own sake. There is soul both in the notes and in Garce's voice full of pathos. In short, we have in front of us the typical perfect dish, forever remaining underground.

"Your Skin And Mine" and "In Flux" are the other two noteworthy episodes. Statuary examples of how to create a sound that embraces different nuances without issues.

The first is the climax of decadent romantic expression. Moving dialogues between guitar and keyboard with a voice so expressive you could touch it. No need to rack your brains over geometric breaks or forced virtuosity.

The beauty, in linear ideas.

The second, on the other hand, demonstrates how to glide over the palette of strings with a certain ease. The chorus is the driving element, where cold and thin notes unfold like icicles.

After "Feeding The Flame" there will be a pause that will block the verve that was budding, but nothing will ever be the same again. One of the most efficient soundscapes in music in general.
