English rock group formed by keyboardist Vincent Crane with early involvement from Carl Palmer. Known for organ-driven progressive hard rock, frequent lineup changes, and a dark, heavy sound in the early 1970s.

Formed in 1969. Founding/early members include Vincent Crane and Carl Palmer; later lineups featured John Du Cann and Paul Hammond. The single "Tomorrow Night" reached No. 11 in December 1970. Vincent Crane died by suicide on February 14, 1989. Carl Palmer left early to join other projects (notably Emerson, Lake & Palmer).

Three DeBaser reviews cover Atomic Rooster's early albums, praising Vincent Crane's keyboard work and the group's dark, organ-heavy sound. Death Walks Behind You is widely regarded here as the high point. In Hearing Of is seen as competent but inferior to its predecessor. The debut is noted for its energy and early prog-rock character.

For:Fans of 1970s progressive and hard rock; listeners who like organ-led, dark, psychedelic-tinged music.

An album that expresses the full expressive maturity of this supergroup and leaves the listener paralyzed by the unease some of its parts evoke.

For all connoisseurs of Atomic Rooster, the group’s masterpiece remains the previous "Death Walks Behind You": nothing is more true, and "In Hearing Of" is decidedly inferior.
