THE REVIEW

I open Google, type the word Athletics + album name into the bar, and with some surprise, I find only a few pieces of information about the band in English, and especially no reviews or any other material in Italian related to them. So let's start here to mind their business a bit.

Athletics is a band from Asbury Park, New Jersey, composed of vocalist Garret Yager along with Jimmy Boyce, John Cannon, Howie Cohen, and Zachary West. They are dedicated to post-rock with emo and ambient influences.
This EP follows the debut of "Why Aren't I Home?" and is a concept piece that aims to reflect on the profound meaning of life and that complicated feeling that is love.
About 30 minutes of music span over the 5 acts identified only by Roman numerals into which what is intended as a single track is divided.

It starts with the prolonged arpeggios introducing "I," a true melancholic lullaby stifled by a scream that splits the song in two and sees the explosive entry of guitars, never so harsh throughout the EP, which generally relies on soothing melodies supported by some electronic hints and synth to enrich the sound web. Examples of this are the long suite "II" and also "III," excellent mixtures of instrumental stretches, delicate vocalisms, and thunderous bursts of light that drag the listener towards an oasis of serene bliss.
On "V," a delicate piano ballad, the end credits roll.

Mixed and mastered by Greg Dunn of Moving Mountains, the EP sees the light thanks to the collaboration with Deep Elm and InTheCloud Records.

A pleasant discovery from the indie undergrowth of the stars and stripes.
