The "Master Of Puppets" of death metal, that's how I would define "Slaughter Of The Soul" by At The Gates. It is, along with "The Sound Of Perseverance" by Death, the best album of the genre. With this work, At The Gates rightfully enter the ranks of the most skilled death metal bands, alongside the aforementioned Death, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, and Entombed. Not to mention that it's thanks to the sound of this album that many bands exist today (Soilwork above all).

Let's examine the album: the pairing of "Blinded By Fear"-"Slaughter Of The Soul" alone would be enough to give the CD an excellent rating. I can say these two tracks are full of exquisite technique, aggression, art, impressive speed, and a divine voice — that of Thomas Lindberg, who has a distinctive and unique timbre (his "go!" at the beginning of the title track is splendid).
The subsequent tracks are pure gems as well: "Cold", "Under A Serpent Sun", the acoustic "Into The Dead Sky", the fabulous "Suicide Nation", "World Lies, and "Need": less famous than the first tracks, but no less beautiful for it.
The limited edition of the CD also includes six tracks, among which are demos of "Unto Others" and "Suicide Nation", three covers, of Slayer ("Captor Of Sin"), Slaughterlord ("Legion"), and No Security ("Bister Verklighet"), and one unreleased, "The Dying", all performed to perfection.

It's a shame that instead of releasing more masterpieces like these, At The Gates disbanded... Anyone who knows the band but repudiates "Slaughter Of The Soul" and considers themselves a fan of death metal should be ashamed.
There's no need to add more: for anyone who considers themselves a true metalhead, purchasing this album is mandatory, mandatory, and mandatory. Divine.
