After the album "Acrobatic Tenement" and the EP "El Gran Orgo", At The Drive In present themselves in 1999 with "In/Casino/Out", perhaps their best work.
The record is more mature compared to the previous ones, featuring clear and cohesive ideas. The sound mixes rap, noise, hardcore supported by a good lo-fi production.
Anger, pain, and discomfort are the main themes masterfully interpreted by Blixer's voice. The warm, sincere, almost instinctive arrangements are excellent. The rhythms borrow a lot from the crossover that was all the rage during that period, but the sounds are of a completely different type: rougher and rawer, they look at the early '90s Seattle scene.
Among the most significant tracks: "Hoolahop Wounds" (with a splendid verse featuring breathtaking call and response vocals), "For Now... We Toast" and the emocore ballad "Lopsided".
In the end, the listening experience offers forty minutes of intense emotionality, without ever tiring, without ever having the chance to rest.
Recommended for moments of boredom.
