THE REVIEW

If their forecasts depended on them, the atmosphere would tend to expand because it is traversed by continuous ascending currents. And it is a calm ascent, along a broad, white, immaculate staircase that leads straight to the sky, surrounded by acidic arches of a rainbow.

Asobi Seksu, well, one cannot say they improve with each album, but they do mature. It's not easy to create their kind of shoegaze/dream pop entirely geared towards the ethereal. The risk is to be boring and weak, vaporous and not very concrete. Yet, this album proves that just as you start to think they're too light, like misted water droplets lost in the air, the immanence of the fleeting sense of making music is infused with body, substance, layering, lava just erupted from the bowels of the earth. A track is born like this which, in the opinion of the writer, is the masterpiece of the album.

The formula contemporary language/electronics/Cocteau Twins/My Bloody Valentine/Slowdive continues to work and provide ecstatic visions. But these are blissful, mystical ecstasies, not tied to drugs or turbulent dreams. They are visions in purity. Perfectible, of course, because the testing phase, in my opinion, still needs to be completed. But when they decide to release THE Asobi Seksu album, I believe there will be no competition. Meanwhile, for this 2011, one can enjoy a significant step forward towards the celestial vault.
