- home@night_The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things -
I play at night in your house, I live another life.
I change the time in your house, the hours I take go so slow.
I hear no sound in your house, silence in the empty rooms. (The Cure)
TOTAL ENTROPY was the name of a radio show hosted by Asia Argento for East Village Radio from stations first located above a restaurant and then on a sidewalk of First Avenue in New York. Total Entropy is also the title of this album presented exclusively at a Sexodrome Party at Club Silencio in Paris on May 19, 2013, and released on the 29th of the same month. Produced by the French NUUN RECORDS, the same record label as Aspec(t) and Merzbow, it's a compilation of collaborations in limited editions and unreleased tracks. Beat Club, EBM, ATARI Music trilingual with the Suzuki Method, cover photo conceived and realized by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, yellow and black Onitsuka Tigers to wear in a Night Club.
Argento has always dealt with DJ sets and recording studios. She participated in Royalize, a drum'n'bass project by Aliosha from Casino Royale, and in 2017 she created for the French Indochine La Vie Est Belle, a raw and emotional music video on the earthly segment (and beyond) of a man that YouTube preferred to censor. Birth, loss, betrayal, irrational happiness, riding positions of the Amazons, Lilith, Andromache, glory, violence, illness, death. Too much for the explicit content that passes and belongs to everyone's life in ways that people find obscene. They don't serve the Likes.
An actress often inadequate, not to say not up to par, with an often annoying voice that, however, unexpectedly and with the right effects, comes out well in singing because, in reality, from her first youthful interviews, she seems to have a nice voice of a cubist girl despite her debatable acting diction, and humanly she would not seem to be a crude American film where good and evil are only black and white. Fragility, intelligence, a certain transparency, off-limits culture, desires for serenity, things that often, passively and with poorly concealed unjustified rancor, are not recognized for her.
(Self) Media misunderstanding like tinnitus. Traffic odors.
Rhythms beating on the nervous system of blockbuster and Starbucks.
Multinationals Daihatsu. Limousines, Cellophane, Magazines. Special Editions.
Total Entropy is a fashion parade of people who over the years wanted her as a vocal guest for their music. Her voice is then found at the service of the electro-AirFrance figures of Hector Zazou and Harold Budd. The program opens with the Charlatans UK's Hours, which here becomes Ours with Tim Burgess sharing the microphones. With Trash Palace, she highlights the (now tired) monoplage par excellence of Gainsbourg, there's inner blues, the subliminal crescendo with Fortuna from Geneva, circulates Nosferatu allure with Antipop (a side project of the other French Télépopmusik) and with a piece by Toog that seems to revive certain insights of Total Eclipse by Christian Rainer. There are hard themes, themes ero-guro nansensu, there's phonitsukae. Behind the dark lenses of Someone with Archigram there's the electroclash of Miss Kittin & The Hacker, a vision in stereo. Some gaps probably due to excessive minutage which, however, do not significantly compromise the distinct quality of the product that would have benefited from some minimal pruning. It closes with the goth rock -Holy Bible Belt- by and with Anton Newcombe from the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Asia in this album would have deserved to have D'arcy Wretzky on bass at her disposal.
Four tracks out of seventeen are co-written and performed with Morgan. Sexodrome is rather insufficient and negligible, the other three are interesting. CheeseAndEggs which lyrically is nothing more than a paragraphed transcription of the continental breakfast menu of a hotel to ideally consume during a morning interview with background noises of cutlery, cups, and poured liquids. Because at the end, if the Royale With Cheese is Street Food Soundtrack, a Club Sandwich is pure white aseptic and indispensable Hotel Room Service. Computers, fruit, books, black coffee. Caffeine. ☯ We're the Pepsi Generation ☯
Liebestod -the death of lovers- (with a different vocal mix from the original version) melts into a Pink Floyd Music enchantment and harmonically draws inspiration from the first and last chord of Tristan und Isolde. The other noteworthy piece is Indifference, with a Depeche Mode post ULTRA_Music orientation and a declared reference to Moravia's work... The complete collapse of that relationship between man and reality [...] and the world became dark and indecipherable to him, or worse, non-existent.
A heart on fire inside an ice cube. 23 Roses, just to stay away.
Total Entropy is like a need for Rehab/Detox, a listening diversion that would work both with headphones and as music to fill a wallpapered environment: Cherry-Cola, Marlboro Lights, Fiji Water, energy_beverage, General Electric's air conditioning to discuss the tautological phenomenology of toilet paper. Dress Code on Door Policy to Enter The Void through a Love Hotel.
Don't You? Don't You? Fuck You, Butterfucker.
Sincerity is vanity, all that remains is Indifference.
Entropy spirals down like a slab, as true as it is under the sky.
Demise is my new daydream
Despise is killing me, shadows in my soul drain into the rain
I lived for an instant, a flash in the distance
Lie after lie, year after year, detached and unreal, my will disappeared
Please don’t disturb me, don’t try and involve me, sleep is the only respite
In love with my indifference, it’s cute to be indifferent,
We all should be indifferent, like mom and dad, indifferent
I’m happy being numb with my indifference.
(32 Seconds of Silence and Obscurity...)
Solo night flights crossing gates, duty-free shops, and terminals of the golden globe.
Lights are on but no one is at home. And it is 23 A.M. and you're listening to... Deep From Colosseum.
