LA RECENSIONE

I believe no term can better describe Aseptic White Age than "peculiar." Their debut album is classic in the sense that it leaves you amazed, a project you can't truly grasp even when drawing insight from their own words: "This album is a journey through the depths of the self, the first book of a saga made of sounds and noises, visions and reality." So let's embark on this journey, quickly finding ourselves astonished. Yes, because the Modena-based band certainly has no intention of charming the audience with a trendy product, quite the opposite. "Reminiscence" is an instrumental concept album, boasting a myriad of solutions and artistically is quite solid despite its firm desire to be as free as possible from any style. The tracks are the result of jam sessions, rich in (planned) improvisation and fluctuating moods, transitioning from dark moods to decidedly more frivolous situations, all without ever becoming banal. Because fundamentally, Aseptic White Age are musicians who love to engage in something intricate, within their tracks we find post-metal but also a lot of experimentation derived from Avant-garde and, why not, prog. Genres that this band seems to know well, tackling them with intelligence and a lineup that even includes a saxophone, which is very useful in adding "color" to an already diverse work. We're talking about an album aimed at the niche of a niche, something that even metalheads might struggle to understand but, if absorbed with the right calm, can offer truly interesting moments. A track like "Gravity" or the metal assault of the central part of "Antidote" are examples of how eccentric and at the same time captivating these guys are. A truly interesting release that brings to the fore the DIY spirit (the album is self-produced) and also features an appealing graphic concept.
