Ascend is presented in the review as a 2008 US drone/doom supergroup featuring contributors linked to Iceburn, Engine Kid and members known from the broader doom/drone scene; the project blends drone, doom, ambient and blues influences and released the album Ample Fire Within in 2008.

Ample Fire Within (2008) is the album discussed in the provided review. The review references members and contributors with ties to Iceburn (Gentry Densley), Engine Kid/Greg Anderson (later Sunn O))), and guitarist Kim Thayil (Soundgarden).

A positive, analytical review of Ascend's 2008 album Ample Fire Within. Highlights the project's blend of drone/doom/ambient with blues influences and uncommon instrumentation (horns, organ). Praised for avoiding stasis in drone music and recommended for headphone listening. Considered one of the essential extreme releases of 2008 by the reviewer.

For:Fans of drone, doom, sludge and experimental/ambient metal with an interest in blues-tinged, hypnotic textures.

Once upon a time, many years ago, there were a couple of bands that despite their quality went mostly unnoticed: Iceburn by Gentry Densley (shame on us! Not even one review on DeBaser, they deserved it!) and Engine Kid (which I actually don't know, but they were one of the first bands of the meritorious Greg Anderson, later in Goatsnake, SunnO))), and another thousand bands) that shared a Split back in 1994.
