Belgian-born Sinti guitarist (1910–1953), pioneer of gypsy jazz and co-founder of the Quintette du Hot Club de France with Stéphane Grappelli.

Born in Liberchies, Belgium (1910). Suffered a caravan fire injury around 1928 that damaged his left hand and cost the use of two fingers. Co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France with Stéphane Grappelli. Widely regarded as a major influence on jazz guitar; died in Samois-sur-Seine, France (1953).
