Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud (20 October 1854 – 10 November 1891) was a French poet associated with Symbolism. He wrote most of his major poetry in the early 1870s, produced Une Saison en Enfer and Les Illuminations, and largely stopped writing by the mid 1870s; he later travelled and worked abroad.

Born 20 October 1854 in Charleville, Rimbaud gained recognition for poems such as 'Le Bateau Ivre' and the collections Une Saison en Enfer and Les Illuminations. He composed most of his influential work as a teenager and ceased major literary production around 1875. He spent later years travelling and working outside France and died on 10 November 1891.
