THE REVIEW

In a whirlwind of Gothic suggestions and mysteries shrouded in the London fog, Arthur Machen takes us on a journey through the mind of horror with "The Great God Pan." This new luxurious edition masterfully curated by the publisher Ippocampo transforms the reading experience into an encounter with cosmic terror and decadent beauty. "The Great God Pan" is much more than a simple horror story; it is an immersion into the depths of the unknown, an exploration of the darkness within the human soul and the mysteries of the universe. Machen uses his evocative prose to transport the reader to a world suspended between reality and surreality, where the boundary between the normal and the supernatural becomes tenuous. At the center of this novel is an enigmatic entity, a female figure shrouded in an aura of mystery and death. Anyone who crosses her path is destined for a cruel and inescapable fate. Machen paints a disturbing picture of Victorian London, where darkness mingles with light and terror hides around every corner. This edition includes not only the main novel but also a collection of complementary stories - "The Inner Light," "The Novel of the Black Seal," "The Novel of the White Powder," "The Shining Pyramid" - that further enrich the dark and evocative world created by Machen. Each story offers a window into a different aspect of horror, revealing the infinite facets of the human mind and the unknown surrounding it. The prefaces by Guillermo del Toro and Arthur Machen himself add further depth to this work, highlighting its prominent place in the literary horror canon. And Samuel Araya's illustrations are a perfect complement to Machen's prose, capturing the essence of terror and uncertainty masterfully. S.T. Joshi's afterword provides a valuable critical analysis of the work, offering the reader a deeper perspective on its importance and influence in the literary landscape. "The Great God Pan" is a work that insinuates itself into the reader's mind and never lets go. It is a work that challenges conventions and explores the boundaries of terror and wonder. This new luxurious edition is a must for all lovers of literary horror, an opportunity to experience the terror and beauty of one of the undisputed masterpieces of the genre.

The Great God Pan is a very powerful and evocative novel that brings to light ancient pagan legends and is based on the concept of “evil” as an integral part of reality.

It is deplorable that his name is today almost forgotten, apart from some rare exceptions, by publishing and its rigid market rules.

Il Gran Dio Pan remains, in any case, a very powerful decadent work, rich with a vivid imagination.

The Manchester Guardian called it 'the most despicable ever written in English... It is deliberately so, with a sharp impiety.'
