LA RECENSIONE

Here is the group you don't expect. I attended a live concert of this American underground entity yesterday (the band has been active for 6 years now).

Ambient soundscapes, noise guitar interweavings, post-rock influences, and a massive tribal-like rhythmic session make this band one of the most interesting offerings in the indie scene in recent years. Riding the wave of enthusiasm, I bought the CD "Spirit" (Acuarela Records, Madrid 2006). I found myself listening to it, fascinated, until late at night. It's impossible for anyone who loves certain sounds to remain indifferent to such work. A cathartic and hallucinatory wall of sound where dark-oriented atmospheres mix with enveloping ambient sounds capable of profoundly engaging the listener, catapulting them into mystical, ethereal territories. The heavy use of delays and reverbs fosters a fascinating psychedelic-dreamlike dimension.

These guys are really talented! Definitely! Not only for the technical-instrumental mastery demonstrated in the compositions but especially for the creative energy that pervades their sound. A note for the singer (on guitar and percussion), who in intensity and pathos is at the level of Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu)... well, you get the idea... impressive! I highly recommend listening to this album. It might hold pleasant surprises for those who want to enter into the ASPE's mantra-like spirit.
